Nutley, New Jersey, in Essex county, is 2 miles South of Clifton, New Jersey and 6 miles North of Newark, New Jersey. The town is located in the Newark metropolitan area. Nutley has a population of 27,362.
Originally, Nutley was known as the Franklin Township and was incorporated on February 18, 1874. At that time, it was a part of the Belleville Township. On March 5, 1902, it was reincorporated as a town and was renamed Nutley, after the estate of the Satterthwaite family.
